Built in 1937, the nearly 4,000 square foot home, formerly belonging to Olympic champion swimmer and surf revolutionary Duke Paoa Kahanamoku sits on what was once a fishing village during the King Kamehameha the Great era.

The VP of Nike is the current owner, and while he’s done considerable but “respectful” renovating, there’s still a hint of Duke Kahanamoku who left an imprint of his hands beneath a tree gifted to him by the then Emperor of Japan. The addition of an infinity pool shored up with indigenous lava stone over Kahala Beach only makes a minor concession in the charm of Duke’s former domicile.
