After earning a degree in Meteorology from the University of Hawaii, Hawaiian surfer Genki Kino applied for positions with NOAA all over the country. His first job offer? Missoula, Montana. You might expect that a wave-gliding islander to politely–but swiftly–decline, but Kino kept an open mind, and lo and behold, what did he find? Not only waves, but a “mountain surf” shop, along with a bona fide surf scene, hundreds of miles from the sea. (Video below)
There’s even a lineup. Who knew? Screenshot from Montana Rooted: PINEAPPLE EXPRESS
