The Graveyard of 1,000 Surfboards

Australian graphic artist Chris Anderson spent two years collecting the 1,000 broken surfboards for this exhibit on Garie Beach in Illawarra, Australia, which buried in the sand as tombstones, glowing over candles.

The exhibit was created to raise awareness of the environmental impact of surfboards, and demonstrate the potential for reuse.

It’d be pretty cool to be able to stop by and see this on any night, but you can imagine that it wouldn’t look so neat during the day. So, in agreement with local authorities, he took it down the following morning.
