Watch This Fisherman Rescue a Bald Eagle and Melt a Little Bit
by Owen James Burke
“I’ve got to say, you’re the most unusual fishing partner I’ve ever had. But you’re probably better at that than me though.”
Fisherman Dan Dunbar was fishing near Nanoose, British Columbia when he came upon the eagle struggling at the surface. His attempted conversation with the wounded bird of prey during the rescue is probably the most heartwarming thing you’ll see a fisherman do all day.
The eagle had no visible breaks, or injuries that would prevent it from being able to fly, reported a veterinarian with the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (O.W.L.), but it was likely that the bird, which was not eating, had ingested some rodenticide used by farmers in the area to keep pests away.
