The Ultraskiff Is a Modern Take on the Traiditional Coracle, and a Flatwater Fly Fisherman’s Dream

by Owen James Burke

This may seem more like a sweetwater concept, but it’d actually be perfect for fly fishing in the mangroves or on the flats, or duck hunting in the marshes with its 360º vantage point. It’s got a cooler, rod holders, a baitwell, and no snags to tangle your line. It also looks like it’d be fun to just tool around in.

The “Ultraskiff” is small and light enough that it doesn’t need a trailer, and could maybe be turned up on its side and rolled down the beach, but certainly hauled into the bed of a pickup truck.

It’s still in its start-up phase, but if anyone manages to get a hold of one and hook into a tarpon on one, make sure you don’t end up at sea. (We’d love to see video footage in any case, but this thing in no way looks seaworthy, and electric trolling motors are not known for lasting more than a few hours.)
