This is What an 80MPH Scottish Gale Looks Like

by Owen James Burke

The west coast of Scotland was absolutely battered by the 80 m.p.h. winds of a gale in early February.  The sea was churned up like a cauldron, and the destruction was extensive.  Judging by the surface of the water in this photograph, it would be quite difficult to distinguish from which direction it is that the storm is approaching as walls of waves assail from ever which angle.  This bridge does not look as if it will survive, but the little red hatchback retains faith.
