The Embassy of Drowned Nations

The Embassy of Drowned Nations is a concept is a sunken city in Sydney Harbor that is “a sort of Ellis Island, a blend of Atlantis and eden”, meant to serve as a transitional home for those who live in countries that will be inevitably taken in by the rising, warming seas.

Citizens of places like the Maldives, and Venice, with ground level only a few feet above sea level, can live here before integrating with Australia’s mainland. The concept is a co winner of Sea Change 2030+, a contest meant to foster ideas that can help deal with global warming’s effect on the ocean. [AILA via BLDGBLOG]
